Temporary-Dipole Induced-Dipole Bonds, Boy-Girl Bonds?
hello.
that day kwok hong and i were throwing a softball back and forth on the field when my shooting teacher-in-charge mr lee happened to walk past us. i waved to him and offered a smile, then went back to playing with the ball, hoping that he would not talk to me about training. i havent been giving a lot of effort lately, you see.
in the end, he still spoke, but it was about something totally unexpected.
"xuandao, do you have a girlfriend?"
or something like that.
i awkwardly replied him, saying "no" matter-of-factly, and when he continued to bombard me with related questions, i tried to keep my replies as short as possible, showing as little reaction as possible.
truth is, i'm not prepared. ive never seriously considered having a girlfriend by my side. probably that's because what happened the last time. yeah, you know it.
it's kinda lame getting a girlfriend now, especially when you know you can rarely find true love at this stage. coz we've barely made it past puberty, a time when emotions get the better of you so much that rationality is something you'll rarely experience.
but with all those people around you getting a partner and such, it's inevitable to get influenced a little. sometimes when you get lucky the influence just works out fine, while sometimes fate just isnt good on you. and with all those sordid tv dramas, movies and even books and magazines backing up the illusion, you cant help but think expressing your love is not only normal, it is necessary.
now when i come to think of it, what grown ups always say turn out to be just right. ensuring that you do well in studies is the first priority. next comes managing all sorts of commitments, like your cca, family relationships and social connections. the last priority, if even a priority, would be to find a partner.
im not strictly going against having a relationship. it's just that i think it would be too heavy and complicated a burden to shoulder. think about it. if you got a girlfriend, would there stil be freedom? of course you can turn her down if she phones you and asks you out for a movie. but doing so would just add another demerit point in her book of relationship record. bad impression, eh? and a break up is even more unthinkable. first, there would be a strong psychological impact, and second, you can never interact with your ex-girlfriend in the same way. in other words, one more person in the "CAUTION! RESTRICTED CONVERSATION ADVICED" list.
that's why i say, if you get into a relationship, it becomes a parasitic commitment, one that you cant shake off easily without repercussions. it's not as easy as forcing two SIMS 2 retards together (ive never played the game before, but i think it's just some lame dummy-manipulating game. i call it "barbie for mature adults". kinda oxymoronic.) it's about dealing with all sorts of human issues, which, when you boil it down, is never as rational and predictable as 1+1=2. (that's also the reason why i perpetually dont get humanities)
can you handle all these challenges as a teenager? well i seriously doubt so. look around and you'll notice so many "couples" (can i even term them as couples?) breaking up so easily. why? Because the bonds between adolscents, being temporary dipole induced dipole intermolecular forces, are weak, therefore when heat is applied, they break up easily. compared to the strong ionic bonds between adults, the attraction between teenagers is way too minor.
Conclusion:
What i want to say: im not getting a girlfriend anytime soon.
What i do not want to bring across: i am a cold hard loner who thinks that making friends with girls is just too troublesome.
bye,
friend!
