The Chronicles of Bin Cao Cao Chapter #1
a few moments ago, before i started on this post, an "aunty" and a secondary school girl in uniform (presumably her daughter) approached my doorstep, offering to sell ice cream. of course i said no, becoz first, we already have ice cream in our freezer. second, i dont know what kind of ice cream they'll sell. sekali they give me molten mcdonald's 50 cents and charge me a dollar for it. (but if that's the case, then i'll tell them i want the kfc 50 cents ice cream and give them a hard time.) third, i dont crave for ice cream so much that i'll accept an offer from a
salesman... no... saleswoman... no... salesstudent... no?!... salespeople... whatever.
life's tough.
ok.
the normal .::Xuandao the Blogger::. will start commenting on how bad the situation in singapore is. well but school's over, and im not inclined to complete more works related to the "Art of Reflection". what the hell. they give such fanciful names for ip modules, when they just turn out to be boring literature and english lessons. anyway, im not here to write another forum commentary. im gonna show you how a singaporean of a lower level will react to this situation. (im considering that im a singaporean of a higher caste. dont agree? well then get out of my blog. jkjk. jkjk.)
Here it goes:
Bin Cao Cao (literally in "Hokkien", face black black) was a very bad-tempered woman who never failed to darken someone's day with that ever-present frown. she worked as a clerk in a small company you have never heard of, and, like her own company, she had no aspirations, no aim in life, and no life.
Every morning Bin Cao Cao would make a trip to the nearby "Hawker Centre" to get breakfast, which was always a 1-dollar nasi lemak consisting of 5 spoonfuls of rice, half a fish (which was ingeniously split into two sideways by the uncle so that it would appear from the outside as one whole fish.) and a cheapest egg sold in the wet market. ironically, she never complained about the uncle bring stingy. others later explained that it was because she always took 5 heaped spoonfuls of the you-want-then-take-lah chilli (when the uncle wasnt looking of course).
after that she would proceed to the wet market section of the Hawker Centre. by then it was already late morning, around 11. (in case you dont know, by that time, most stalls are ready to close after selling most of their stocks. only those unwanted goods were left unsold.) a scene would unfold:
Bin Cao Cao: Wah Lau Uncle, le siao arh le! These vegetables hor, is no one want one! if im not here hor, then you also going to throw away de! k la, i give you a deal, i give two dollars, you give me all you got left!
Uncle: Buay Sai lah! i every month only earn veh little noe! cannot cannot, 4 dollars, no lesser.
but then, Bin Cao Cao would always end up paying 3 dollars.
finally, after a day of very monotonous work, when she reached home, Bin Cao Cao would routinely switch on the television to watch the mindless drama serial.
the show was just reaching its climax when a really unfortunate salesman happened to stumble upon Bin Cao Cao's doorsptep.
what will happen next? will Bin Cao Cao slam the door straight in the salesman's face? will she ignore him? or will she do something even more creative?
